PM Lee's email of thanks for the people's contribution is fake

An email claiming to be from Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, is fake. In it, the sender expresses gratitude to Singapore for its contribution.

In a Facebook statement on Monday night (Oct. 3), Mr. Lee disclosed that a fictitious email purportedly sent by him was being distributed.

He said, "The content of the email is different - this example is thanking the sender for their contribution to Singapore," implying that the con artists behind the emails would not stop.

In Mr. Lee's post, a sample of the forged email was included, demonstrating that the thief included his name as well as contact information and the Prime Minister's Office's address.

The email should not be shared with friends and family, Mr. Lee advised.

This is not the first time fake emails of this kind have been sent online.

In a Facebook statement in March 2020, Mr. Lee warned, among other things, about a fictitious email he sent asking for "contributions and views" on the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, in April of that year, the police issued an advisory in response to an online report that claimed Mr. Lee supported investing in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
