1) Assassin's Creed Valhalla - PC
This is based on the 2018 Assassin's Creed series game and follows Desmond Miles who is forced into an extraordinary quest to find a hidden vault to secure his family's legacy. You begin the story by playing through the Viking Age, the dark ages, and Medieval Europe, before concluding with this action epic set in Viking times. It has been adapted onto both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox One consoles and features plenty of graphical fidelity, so you can expect the same great gameplay and visuals as seen on the big screens. Ubisoft Studios, one of the most popular creators of action-adventure titles, is behind it and has published it for many years. So it has a very solid reputation. There's also no shortage of content available: over 50 hours of storylines, including access to multiplayer matches on Facebook and many others, which I'm not saying is enough but would certainly give you access to over 100 hours of games of this type, depending on what system your game is running on. The overall experience is just amazing and I hope to see much more Ubisoft franchises and their associated IPs on PC.
2) Borderlands 3 - Gamepad
Yes, even though I know there are already several good alternatives, I still think Borderlands 3 should come on Nintendo GamePads as a portable version because of how immersive it is. And by immersion I don't mean just how deep they get, it means that this game feels like an entire world being laid out open before us: you start with nothing, then progress from scratch and explore different areas until eventually, you run out into the depths of space and finally reach a mysterious land. As far as I know, nobody else has done this so I guess we'll see if it continues to be a success. What works for me is the fact that it starts as a bare single screen and grows in size, so you've probably got a whole area in front of you the size of an imaginary island, each level leading up to that next one, all without touching anything else. All on the side of the console, with a simple button press, to go around. This is where most people would say it's more important than you'd think, particularly since you're always looking at your items and enemies, trying to figure out what's coming next. But the game plays beautifully! Like all the classics, you get a full life, but never in the way you might imagine when you first played the original Borderlands. Just you and your trusty loot bag... well maybe not quite, but it does feel pretty good. Of course, there are plenty of new levels that you can try and explore while you explore every nook and cranny of this wonderful world, some of them are much deeper than others as you venture further into its deepest regions. Also, the game includes lots of puzzles, some tougher than others, and none more difficult than those you find after certain fights have occurred. It's worth investing in. And if that doesn't motivate you enough, you get a huge array of characters, different environments, and even weapons! For example, with this little character called Tango, you can craft a myriad of cool items such as shields, hammers, and arrows. Some of these include unique swords with attachments, others feature lights with flashing eyes, others look like fish, whilst others can become traps for other creatures such as Kraken. You even play various classes throughout all modes, which allow you to choose the right path and ultimately shape your future on a beautiful planet. It's a truly special, awe-inspiring title. Overall I'd say it is about half an hour, or two hours if you want to spend lots of time exploring and solving puzzles. And don't forget it gets better when you buy extras that improve it! It's a fantastic and rewarding RPG with a few additional elements.
3) Grand Theft Auto V - Gamepad
I think almost everyone in existence knows what Grand Theft Auto V is but somehow it manages to escape the grasp of anyone outside video games, let alone PC gamers. That's partly because it didn't exist back in 2007; in fact, it didn't receive widespread attention until 2009, but then again it wasn't the kind of popular game that you'd think it would be after that. Now after months of waiting, GTA V releases on a brand new generation of consoles and PC worldwide. In addition to providing its main story and engaging online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V is packed with plenty of other exciting experiences and missions that you can use to advance the plot. These include completing multiple nightclub runs and finding your missing brother. With lots of collectible items (or simply collecting cars), the overall concept for the game isn't too complicated, although the overall design is simple and easy to pick up. And as you explore the city, you'll need a decent amount of patience and determination to complete all of the main challenges, all of which take a fair lot of time to complete (even with 4K settings). However unlike classic arcade games where you could keep moving forward, in GTA V, your speed will depend upon your current situation, so it takes quite a bit of time to find yourself somewhere safe. Nevertheless, if that happens, you needn't worry, you'll soon be able to discover numerous ways of getting around and using the vehicles and other objects in your collection. Oh, and of course, if that brings you joy, you’ll gain a load of cash by finishing the game and sharing it with everybody via social media. Another interesting piece of the puzzle is how the actual music is used to create atmosphere and make sure listeners stay interested. Even though you won’t hear any bells on the soundtrack thanks to modern compression technology, you still can enjoy your favorite tracks in their glory and relive a small part of history back in the day. The game is surprisingly fun indeed, which is a bonus because I was worried that it wouldn't have much to offer. Apart from its aesthetic, everything about this game is stunning to look at and is easily played in 1080p.
4) Dishonored - Gamepad
If you love violence, there’s something to love about Dishonored. Unfortunately, as you grow older with age the game becomes more violent and dangerous, making it hard to distinguish between entertainment and horror. If that sounds familiar you may recognize the DLC’s ‘Dishonored Vegas’ set in Las Vegas where the player will assume the role of Batman/Crime Alley, complete with bulletproof vests and prosthetic leg implants. Fans of the 1980 film trilogy will instantly recognize the setting and feel that you’re there as Bruce Wayne on the streets of Washington DC. The essence of this game is to take control of some crime boss or corrupt businessman, only to realize that he’s been taken over by the villainous corporation known as Cerberus and the organization dubbed The Society. Everything is bleak and grey, often set against a landscape saturated with human skulls. At times you can get killed or kidnapped by thugs who will kill you in the heat of cold blood unless you can figure it out before it hits you. Then even if you manage to survive, there are consequences after killing someone else, for example, if you see someone who you know is responsible, you'll be automatically blamed, no matter how justified, and you will be prosecuted for crimes you did not commit. The graphics are quite clean and sharp as you aim your guns across streets and buildings, especially during gunfights and combat, it may seem intimidating but once you master it you’ll quickly appreciate the sheer power and ferocity of it. Whether you want to take revenge after someone kills you or protect yourself and your house you have to make a conscious choice of if you want to end up as a murderer. My advice would be to pay for the DLCs separately and install them on your copy of the game. It goes against my usual rule that you shouldn't try to do anything that you haven't paid for.
5) Bloodborne - Gamepad
Bloodborne, another great action-adventure game, is now coming to Microsoft Windows PCs worldwide. Having released on PS4 and Xbox One in 2010, this release contains many improvements and updates for players to enjoy on their PCs. From enhanced performance to improved quality, Bloodborne incorporates the latest hardware to deliver superior user experiences on high-definition HD graphics and audio. While this is technically the second expansion, Bloodborne II received fewer updates compared to the initial game and this makes understanding what’s happening within the game easier on your mind. Bloodborne is a completely different environment that you enter once you install the game on your laptop, but once you start to explore the town and the countryside you are given the chance to interact with the NPCs, and local inhabitants and even take control of one of the four iconic villains. Whilst watching television in town you will be treated to cute scenes and moments from the TV shows that you watched. Each show has a separate playlist you can browse through, which opens up a vast range of scenes from past TV shows and shows set in Bloodborne to help you understand the world to a greater extent.
